On 12 January 2017, Ahmed Shaheed chaired a session on ‘Ensuring Accountability and Transparency: Maintaining Freedom of Information’ at a meeting on ‘The Future of Human Rights in a Multi-Polar World: Exploring Opportunities for Further Engagement’, organised by Wilton Park in association with the Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs, the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brookings Institution and Global Affairs Canada.

The session considered freedom of information and expression online, questioning: How to maintain the Internet as a public/common good? What are the links to open governance and the cross border/regional implications? How to sustain norms of behaviour? What are the trade-offs between privacy and security?

Please see here for more information on the meeting.
